Types of Nose Piercings

There are basically three types of nose piercings. Like many piercings, there are no clever names here. The piercings are simply named after the part of the body that is being pierced.

  • Nostril Piercing – This is a single piercing of the nostril. Either a captive bead ring or special type of nasal stud can be worn in this piercing.
  • Septum Piercing – This is a piercing done through the septum. It is usually done through the fleshy part just below the cartilage. A captive bead ring or bent barbell is the jewelry usually worn in this piercing.
  • Nose Bridge Piercing – This is a piercing done through the fleshy part of the bridge of the nose between the eyes. A barbell or bent barbell is usually worn here. It should be noted that there is a fairly high rate of rejection for this piercing.

So that basically covers all of the nose piercings. There isn’t a lot of different anatomy here to shove a needle through, which is why there are only a few different types of nose piercings. As always, if I’ve forgotten something, let me know in the comments and if you want to show off your piercing, send in pics and I’ll get them posted.

There’s always “high nostril”. Still nostril, but I don’t think a lot of people realize that it can be pierced, too.
Great site, here. No bull, just the good stuff. Nice information.

Hi, you forgot double nostril (two piercings on one side of the nose), what me and my friends call lion bites (one piercing on one side on the nostril and another one on the other), horizontal bridge and what me and my friends call a cross (a bridge and a horizontal bridge, we called it a cross because together they look like a upside down cross). Love your site !!!

Are there other names for a double piercing? The guy who pierced my nostril the second time called it a Mackenzie piercing or something.
Also, I was wondering if there is hewelry made specifically for the double piercing.
